Jarvis Montaque, 15, was gunned down in Rexdale late Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.
TORONTO - A 15-year-old boy was gunned down in Rexdale late Sunday, the third that age to be shot dead in the city in the last month.
Toronto Police say the victim - identified as Jarvis Montaque - was shot just before 11 p.m. on Jamestown Cr., near Kipling Ave. and Albion Rd.
It's believed the teen was among a group of people standing out front of an address on a paved walkway.
"A male walked walked along the sidewalk on Jamestown Cr. towards the paved walkway where the group was standing and shot the victim at close range," police said Monday. "The male returned to the sidewalk after the shooting and fled the area."
Montaque suffered a gunshot wound to his torso and was rushed to hospital, where he died.
The teen's killing comes just one week after St. Aubyn Rodney, 15, was shot to death in another troubled neighbourhood near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W.
Rodney's friend, a 17-year-old boy who can't be named, is charged with manslaughter for his killing.
And Tyson Bailey, also 15, was gunned down on Jan. 18 in a Regent Park highrise. No arrests have been made.
Reports suggest Montaque is a Grade 10 student at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School. His family moved here from Jamaica nearly two years ago.
Police have released few other details, so possible motives for the teen's killing are not yet known
